Trigger Happy - The story of Iván Eladio Torres

Iván Eladio Torres was a 26 years old construction worker who helped streetkids to stay away from criminality by offering them shelter and organizing activities. In 2003, police officers abducted him in the presence of multiple witnesses. These witnesses almost all died under suspicious circumstances. Iván is still missing, while the 15 police officers accused for his captivity and ill-treatment remain in service. 






Esteban Cánepa (1976) is an illustrator and comic artist. He has published in both printed media and online, directed a number of awarded short films, and collaborated with national and international advertising campaigns. He has also contributed with illustrations, audiovisuals and posters to several human rights campaigns, including the series ‘Historietas por la Identidad,’ and made a series of drawings during the Human Rights trials which were later exposed at the Ex-ESMA.

Trigger Happy - The story of Luciano Arruga

Luciano Arruga was asked by the police to rob for them, but he refused. His refusal had tragic consequences, as he was harassed by the police, detained and tortured, and later disappeared on January 31st, 2009. His body appeared buried in an unmarked grave  5 years later, in October 2014. He was 16 years old when he disappeared.



Pablo de Bella (1970), is an illustrator and comic artist who studied with the renowned Argentine comic artist Alberto Breccia. He has participated in several exhibitions, and illustrated numerous books for publishers in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and the United States. He previously collaborated with the project ‘Historietas por la Identidad’ of the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo.


Visit to the Library of the University of Utrecht

On 26 October we organized a guided tour for those interested in learning more about the exhibition. We were happy to count with the presence of a number of comic artists from the city of Utrecht. Here are some pictures of the event.

The exhibition can now be visited at the library of the University of Utrecht!

We are very pleased to announce that the exhibition Drawing on Violence. Comics from Argentina can now be visited at the library of the University of Utrecht at the Uithof until the end of December. The address is Heidelberglaan 3. The library is open the whole week and in the weekend as well. Comics for Identity - The Story of Ramiro Menna Lanzillotto

Recently, at the beginning of October, the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo announced that they had found the brother of Ramiro Menna Lanzillotto. Maxi, now 40 years old, was finally reunited with his biological family. His story and that of his disappeared parents can be read in the following comic.





Matías Trillo (1972) is an illustrator who has worked for a wide range of publishers both in Argentina and elsewhere. He mainly illustrates children’s books and has also made animations for Cartoon Network, Paka Paka and Nickelodeon. He has contributed with his illustrations to various public campaigns and his work has previously been included in several exhibitions on children’s book illustrations.

Trigger Happy -The story of Fabián Yapur

One of the most impressive comics in the Trigger Happy-series: the story of Fabián Yapur,  by Néstor Luis Martin. 

Néstor Luis Martin (1971) is an autodidact comic artist, cartoonist and illustrator from the northern province of Tucumán. He publishes a comic in the newspaper El Tribuno de Salta.

Inauguration of the exhibition at CEDLA

Today the exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of CEDLA staff, students and former students of the institute. We gave a brief presentation on the exhibition and the themes and stories it tackles. Exhibition now at CEDLA in Amsterdam!

We are very happy to announce that the exhibition can now be visited at the CEDLA (Center for Latin American Research and Documentation) in Amsterdam, Roeterstraat 33. The institute is open to visitors from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm. The comics will be exposed at the institute during the whole month of September. Trigger Happy - The story of Ezequiel Demonty

Ezequiel Demonty was trying to get a taxi with his two friends when the police dragged them into a car, beat them and forced them to jump into a stream. His two friends managed to reach the shore, but Ezequiel  drowned.





Fabián Zalazar (1969) is a comic artist who has published in and outside Argentina, both in printed media and online. He has also made animations for television channels such as Canal 13 and TN, and has participated in various exhibitions. He currently publishes an online comic series with the magazine ‘Maten al mensajero,’ which comes out once a week.

Federico Reggiani (1969) is a librarian, professor of literature, and comic writer. He has published several books, including two with comic artist Angel Mosquito. He is also a co-founder of the comic blog ‘Historietas Reales’, was co-director of the research project ‘Studies and critique of the comic’ with the National University of Córdoba, and has published several academic papers on comics.
